Mission:
The Cultural, Interracial, and Multicultural Special Interest Chapter of Romance Writers of America is to promote excellence in ethno-cultural romance by advancing the professional goals of career-focused writers of Cultural, Interracial, and Multicultural romance through networking and advocacy, sharing of information, education and awareness building, and other suitable activities, while providing continuing support to writers of Cultural, Interracial, and Multicultural romance.

Definitions:
Ethno-Cultural Romance: stories that focus primarily on the romantic relationship and revolves around Cultural, Interracial, or Multicultural aspects of the character(s), location(s) or theme(s).
Cultural: of a particular social, ethnic, religious group; character(s), location or theme(s) of a SINGLE CULTURAL group (such as Native American, African American, Israeli, Hispanic, Iraqi, Irish… and other cultural groups)
Interracial: conducted, involving, or existing between different races. (MORE THAN ONE racial group.) Which includes interracial (character(s)) of multiple ethnic, cultural or religions heritage/ancestry
Multicultural: of MORE THAN ONE culture relating to, consisting of, or participating in the cultures of different countries, ethnic groups, or religions.
Cultural: of a particular social, ethnic, religious group; character(s), location or theme(s) of a SINGLE CULTURAL group (such as Native American, African American, Israeli, Hispanic, Iraqi, Irish… and other cultural groups)

Chapter History:
6/06/2012 – An application was submitted to RWA to form the Cultural, Interracial, and Multicultural Special Interest Chapter for consideration at their next board meeting at Nationals (Applicants and founding members: Theresa Breaux, Ambrielle Kirk, a.c. Mason.)
07/31/2012 - RWA approved our proposal to become an RWA chapter.
09/01/2012 - CIMRWA formed a nonprofit corporation to do business in the state of Texas.
09/25/2012 - A draft of the chapter bylaws were submitted to RWA.
09/28/2012 - Submitted chapter officer names, and conflict of interest and confidentiality forms to RWA.
10/13/2012 - Board Meeting - 01.
10/20/2012 – Board Meeting - 02.
- Abalone Awards for Published and Unpublished writers
Abalone is a commonly known as an ear shell. They are sea dwellers and water touches all continents. The iridescent nacre that lines the inside of the shell varies in color from silvery white, to pink, red, gre-red, deep blues, greens and purples. Abalone is used for food, the shells as decorative items, and a source of mother of pearl for jewelry. Because of its versatility, abundance, fruitfulness, beauty, diversity and spectra of colors the Abalone was chosen to represent our awards.
11/01/2012 – Chapter bylaws were approved by RWA National
11/10/2012 – Board Meeting – 03.
- Board approved temporary logo for the chapter that incorporates the abalone.
- Chapter Bylaws approved by board
- Board Meetings were regularized to the first Sunday of the Month
12/02/2012 - Board Meeting - 04.
- Website launch December 15, 2012.
- CIMRWA will be ready to accept memberships December 18, 2012.
- CIMRWA will launch contest December 19, 2012.
- Board discussed a chapter Anthology
